# Privacy policy

Local Wire is a news site published by Blue Crane Works, Hamilton, Ontario. It has no accounts, no logins, no comments and no newsletter sign-up. Reading it does not require you to give us anything.

## What is collected when you visit

- **Server logs.** The site is served by Cloudflare, which records ordinary request data (IP address, browser type, page requested, time) to deliver pages and block abuse. Cloudflare's handling of that data is described in its own privacy policy.
- **Page counts.** A first-party beacon counts page views across Blue Crane Works sites. It sets no cookies, stores no identifier on your device and does not follow you to other sites. It exists so we know which pages are read and so the traffic figures quoted to advertisers are real.
- **Advertising.** Ads on Local Wire are served by Wire, Blue Crane Works' own ad system. It counts impressions and clicks per ad. It sets no cookies and does no cross-site tracking or behavioural targeting. Ads are labelled with the advertiser's name.
- **The map page** loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap when you open it. Your browser sends the usual request data to that service to fetch the tiles.
- **Newsletter signup on article pages.** Article pages load Google's Reader Revenue Manager script, which is how Google can offer you a one-tap signup for the Local Wire newsletter using your own Google account. It runs only on article pages, Local Wire articles are free and always will be, and Google's handling of that interaction is covered by Google's privacy policy. If you never use the prompt, we receive nothing about you from it.

## What is not collected

No advertising cookies, no cross-site ad tracking, no fingerprinting, no sale or sharing of reader data with anyone. We do not build reader profiles. The only third-party script on the site is the Google newsletter prompt described above, and it appears on article pages only.

## Email

## Social media accounts

Local Wire publishes its articles to its own accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and TikTok. Those platforms operate under their own privacy policies. Our publishing tools hold only the credentials needed to post to Local Wire's own accounts; they do not read, store or process any information about other users of those platforms.

## People named in articles

Local Wire reports from public documents and does not publish the names of private individuals. Every article links to the source document it was built from.
