Hamilton council approves Collaboration and Advocacy for a Hamilton Youth Wellness Hub 16-0

Hamilton council voted 16 to 0 on Collaboration and Advocacy for a Hamilton Youth Wellness Hub at its Wednesday, May 13, 2026 meeting. The motion carried.

The motion, as recorded in the minutes:

people; WHEREAS, Hamilton’s Child and Youth Network has proactively convened a working group of youth-serving agencies to examine what a Hamilton-based Youth Wellness Hub model could look like; and, WHEREAS, Hamilton’s Community Safety & Well-Being plan has identified integrated community hub models as a proposed solution to addressing broader community safety concerns. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: (a) That Children’s and Community Services staff be directed to collaborate with Hamilton’s Child and Youth Network, which includes local community-based youth organizations, youth service providers, public health partners, school boards, healthcare institutions, and relevant community stakeholders, to support the development of a Hamilton Youth Wellness Hub model tailored to local needs; (b) That staff reach out to the Mayor and Councillors offices to identify other stakeholders to engage that may not currently be connected with the Child and Youth Network to ensure broad community awareness of, and involvement in, this important initiative; (c) That the Mayor formally request that the Province of Ontario — specifically the Minister of Health, the Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, and the Associate Attorney General — support the establishment and sustained provincial funding of a Youth Wellness Hub in the City of Hamilton as part of a coordinated response to growing concerns related to youth violence, youth mental health, addictions, trauma, and gang involvement; and, (d) That a copy of this motion be circulated to local Members of Provincial and Federal Parliament, Hamilton’s school boards, Hamilton Health Sciences, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, Hamilton Police Services, Hamilton Police Services Board, Hamilton’s Child and Youth Network, local youth-serving organizations and a broad cross-section of relevant community stakeholders – as identified by Councillors and the Mayor.
