Public Works Committee approves Confederation Beach Park Eastern Gateway Project 12-0

Public Works Committee voted 12 to 0, with 2 absent on Confederation Beach Park Eastern Gateway Project at its Monday, May 25, 2026 meeting. The motion carried.

(Beattie/Francis) WHEREAS, Confederation Beach Park is widely regarded as an important civic, natural and recreation asset to the City of Hamilton; WHEREAS, the eastern entrance to the Park located on Grays Road, North of Frances Avenue is widely used by pedestrians and cyclists from the both the adjoining Ward 10 neighbourhood as well as users from across the City; WHEREAS, the eastern entrance’s current design and function is a remnant of the former Confederation Park Campground, serving as a vehicular utility entrance; WHEREAS, the former campground space has been thoroughly redesigned and paths and trails rebuilt to provide better access for cyclists and pedestrians through connections to the Confederation Beach Trail; WHEREAS, the eastern entrance has never been updated to reflect its current use both functionally and aesthetically; and, WHEREAS, residents in the adjoining Ward 10 Neighbourhood have advocated for a redesign of the eastern entrance from a functional, safety and aesthetic standpoint. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: (a) That staff BE DIRECTED to submit a capital detail sheet for the Confederation Beach Park Eastern Gateway improvement project, for Council’s consideration as part of a future budget process, with possible funding source suggestions, including the Ward 10 Area-Rated Capital Reinvestment Reserve.
