Please refer to the June 3, 2026, Council Minutes for the disposition of these matters. WHEREAS, the condition of the public realm impedes the BIA’s progress to make this a destination within the City; WHEREAS, the existing decorative street name signs are a legacy design of which the Barton Village BIA has a desire to replace them with an updated design, fitting of the desire to improve the public realm; WHEREAS, investment in the Barton Village BIA results in positive economic impacts for the City of Hamilton; and, WHEREAS, the Barton Village BIA has coordinated with city staff to design new street signs and with city staff and artists on the decorative crosswalk. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: (a) That the fabrication and installation of approximately 80 new decorative street signs along Barton Street East in the Barton Village Business Improvement Area (BIA), replacing the existing legacy signs, BE APPROVED to be funded from the Ward 3 Capital Re- Investment Reserve #108053 at an upset limit, including contingency, not to exceed $22,000; (b) That the artist fees for the decorative crosswalk design to be installed at Barton Street and Emerald Street payable to the Barton Village BIA BE APPROVED to be funded from the Ward 3 Capital Re-Investment Reserve #108053 at an upset limit, including contingency, not to exceed $1,000; (c) That the costs associated with the installation of the decorative crosswalk at Barton Street and Emerald Street BE APPROVED to be funded from the Ward 3 Capital Re-Investment Reserve #108053 at an upset limit, including contingency, not to exceed $5,000; and (d) That the General Manager of Public Works and City Clerk BE AUTHORIZED and DIRECTED to execute any required agreement(s) and ancillary documents, with such terms and conditions in a form satisfactory to the City Solicitor.
