The motion, as recorded in the minutes:
WHEREAS, the Pat Quinn Parkdale Arena, located at 1170 Main Street East, built in 1955 is a City owned recreation facility, including a single ice pad and community room operated by the Recreation Division; WHEREAS, Pat Quinn Parkdale Arena is home to a variety of ice users including Hamilton Huskies Hockey Club, Hamilton Girls Hockey Association, Emergency and Community Services Committee May 28, 2026 Minutes ECS 26-004 Page 6 of 8 Please refer to the June 3, 2026, Council Minutes for disposition of these matters. Boys and Girls Club of Hamilton-Halton, and the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board; WHEREAS, Pat Quinn Parkdale Arena hosts 12.5 hours of scheduled public skating opportunities weekly for the community and over 1,200 hours of permitted ice rentals during the regular ice season; WHEREAS, Recreation staff have identified that the public announcement and sound system at the arena needs replacement; and WHEREAS, hockey teams that play out of Pat Quinn Parkdale Arena and arena public skate patrons have provided feedback that the sound system deficiency has negatively impacted arena user experience. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: (a) That Recreation Division staff BE AUTHORIZED and DIRECTED to undertake the replacement of the Pat Quinn Parkdale Arena sound system to create a more enjoyable ice user experience; (b) That all costs associated with the replacement of the Pat Quinn Parkdale Arena sound system BE APPROVED to be funded from the Ward 4 Capital Re-Investment Reserve #3302609400 at an upset limit, including contingency, not to exceed $6,000; and, (c) That the General Manager, Healthy and Safe Communities Department, or designate BE AUTHORIZED and DIRECTED to execute any required agreement(s) and ancillary documents, with such terms and conditions in a form satisfactory to the City Solicitor.
