Public Works Committee approves Installation of Digital Speed Signs on Hendershot Road 12-0

Public Works Committee voted 12 to 0, with 2 absent on Installation of Digital Speed Signs on Hendershot Road at its Monday, June 15, 2026 meeting. The motion carried.

The motion, as recorded in the minutes:

(Beattie/M. Wilson) WHEREAS, the City of Hamilton has adopted a Vision Zero approach, which recognizes that human error is inevitable and that roadway systems should be designed and managed to reduce the likelihood and severity of collisions; WHEREAS, speeding remains a persistent concern for residents along Hendershot Road; WHEREAS, the Transportation Division previously installed rotational digital speed signs on Hendershot Road between Golf Club Road and Guyatt Road which residents reported to the Ward 11 office that they were effective measures; and, WHEREAS, the Ward 11 Office has worked with the Transportation Division to identify locations along Hendershot Road for the installation of permanent digital speed signs to help promote appropriate and safe vehicle speeds. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: (a) That the Transportation Division be authorized and directed to install two (2) permanent digital speed signs on Hendershot Road between Golf Club Road and Guyatt Road in 2026; (b) That all costs associated with the installation of the two (2) permanent digital speed signs be approved to be funded through the Ward 11 Capital Re-Investment Reserve #4031911611 at an upset limit not to exceed $10,000; and, (c) That the General Manager of Public Works and City Clerk be authorized and directed to execute any required agreement(s) and ancillary documents, with such terms and conditions in a form satisfactory to the City Solicitor.
