Hamilton Police are investigating an overnight arson at a residence in the area of Princess Street and Birch Avenue. Police say the fire was reported at about 3 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, and the occupants got out safely with no injuries reported. Hamilton Fire extinguished the blaze, which caused an estimated $3,000 to $5,000 in damage, and investigators determined it was deliberately set. Video surveillance shows a suspect approaching the residence shortly before the fire and fleeing westbound on Princess Street; the suspect was wearing a light-coloured hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, dark shoes and carrying a cross-body bag.
